Lane County has 20 covered bridges, more than any other county west of the Mississippi River, according to Lane County Public Works. Seventeen of them are on the National Register of Historic Places. Travel Lane County counts 13 still open to vehicles, five open to walkers and cyclists, and two closed to all access, and calls Cottage Grove the "Covered Bridge Capital of the West."

This guide groups the 19 Lane County bridges in our directory into five drives by area, from Cottage Grove in the south to the McKenzie River in the east and the Coast Range in the west. Each table lists its bridges in a sensible order to drive them, with a map link for every stop. Every bridge here uses a Howe truss.

Quick facts

  • Longest: Office Covered Bridge at Westfir, 180 ft over the North Fork of the Middle Fork Willamette River, is the longest covered bridge in Oregon. It uses a triple Howe truss.
  • Oldest: Mosby Creek Bridge, built in 1920, is the oldest covered bridge in Lane County, and it still carries traffic.
  • Only railroad bridge: Chambers Railroad Covered Bridge in Cottage Grove is the only covered railroad bridge left in Oregon. Built in 1925 for a logging railroad, it was taken down and rebuilt in 2010 to 2011 and is now open to walkers and cyclists.
  • Widest: Lowell Covered Bridge, 165 ft over Dexter Reservoir, is the widest covered bridge in Oregon.
  • Closed in 2026: Currin Covered Bridge and Stewart Covered Bridge, both near Cottage Grove, were closed to cars and pedestrians in 2026 because of unsafe conditions.

Cottage Grove loop: Coast Fork and Row River

Six bridges in and around Cottage Grove, all on the City of Cottage Grove's Covered Bridge Tour Route, which the city puts at about 20 miles and 1 to 2 hours of driving. They are listed in the order Travel Lane County's route guide drives them. Start downtown at Centennial and Chambers Railroad, then head east to Mosby Creek and the Row River. Mosby Creek is the only one on this loop you can still drive through. Stewart and Currin were closed to cars and walkers in 2026 because of unsafe conditions; view them from the road only.

Other Lane County bridges

One more covered bridge in the county is not in our directory yet. The Cannon Street Covered Bridge is a 20 ft pedestrian bridge built in 1988 in Rolling Rock Interpretive Park at Main and Pioneer Streets in Lowell. Lane County does not own it.

Tips for visiting

  • Check weight and height limits. Most of the bridges you can drive through carry posted limits, from 8 tons at Mosby Creek to 44 tons at Goodpasture. Several also post a height limit under 12 ft, so check before taking a tall vehicle through.
  • Stay off closed bridges. Currin and Stewart are closed to cars and walkers, and Travel Lane County says climbing onto Stewart is prohibited.
  • Bike the Cottage Grove bridges. The Covered Bridges Scenic Bikeway is a 36 mile paved ride that starts in Cottage Grove and loops through town and around Dorena Reservoir to six bridges.
  • Use the Lowell stop. The Lowell Covered Bridge Interpretive Center has parking, restrooms and picnic tables, with four more bridges within about ten minutes.
  • Get the county map. Lane County Public Works publishes a covered bridge story map and brochure.
