Mosby Creek Bridge
Lane County, near Cottage Grove. Built 1920, 90 ft. long. Oldest covered bridge in Lane County; still carries regular traffic.
The Mosby Creek Bridge, also known as the Layng Bridge, spans Mosby Creek just south of Cottage Grove and holds the distinction of being the oldest covered bridge in Lane County. Built in 1920 by Lane County crews, the 90-foot Howe truss span predates nearly all of the county's other covered bridges, most of which were built during the Depression-era construction boom of the 1930s. Despite its age, Mosby Creek remains the only bridge in the Cottage Grove covered bridge cluster still open to regular vehicle traffic; its neighbors Currin and Stewart have both been closed or restricted in recent years, leaving Mosby Creek as the area's sole working vehicular covered crossing. The bridge sits near the trailhead of the Row River Trail, a popular rail-trail for cyclists and walkers, making it a frequent stop for visitors combining a bridge tour with outdoor recreation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 29, 1979, and maintained through periodic county repairs, the Mosby Creek Bridge remains a working piece of infrastructure as much as a historic landmark, a rare combination among Oregon's surviving covered bridges.
