The Goodpasture Bridge spans the McKenzie River near the community of Vida along the scenic McKenzie Highway, and is widely regarded as the most photographed covered bridge in Oregon. Built in 1938 by Lane County crews under foreman Otis Hyde at a cost of $18,586, the 165-foot Howe truss span is the second-longest covered bridge in the state, trailing only the Office Bridge in Westfir. Its most distinctive feature is a row of tall, gothic-arched decorative windows running the length of both sides, which flood the interior with natural light and give the bridge a graceful, almost cathedral-like appearance rare among Oregon's more utilitarian truss spans. Sitting on the National Register of Historic Places since November 29, 1979, the bridge has undergone several rounds of preservation work, including a substantial rehabilitation project, while its concrete piers and abutments were designed to withstand the McKenzie River's periodic flooding. It remains open to vehicle traffic today and anchors a small roadside park with river access, drawing a steady stream of tourists, photographers, and covered bridge enthusiasts traveling Oregon's McKenzie River Scenic Byway.
