Babb's Covered Bridge
South Windham, Cumberland County. Built 1864 (replica rebuilt 1976), 79 ft over the Presumpscot River. Original burned by vandals in 1973, rebuilt as an exact replica.
Babb's Covered Bridge spans the Presumpscot River between South Windham and Gorham in Cumberland County, Maine. A bridge has stood at this crossing since the mid 1800s, and the historic span used a Queen Post truss. In 1973 the original bridge was destroyed by arson, and it was rebuilt in 1976 as an exact replica of the earlier structure. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 and was later delisted in 2023. It remains one of Maine's best known covered bridge sites and a popular local landmark.
