National Register Town Lattice

The Watson Mill Bridge crosses the South Fork of the Broad River near Comer in Madison County, Georgia. Built in 1885, the 229 foot span uses a Town lattice truss held together with wooden pins and is often described as the longest covered bridge in Georgia. It was constructed by Washington W. King, son of the noted bridge builder Horace King. The bridge is the centerpiece of Watson Mill Bridge State Park and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of a historic district in 1991. It remains a beloved destination for visitors to the park.
