Nederland Covered Bridge

The Nederland Covered Bridge crosses Middle Boulder Creek right in the heart of Nederland, a onetime silver- and tungsten-mining town in the mountains west of Boulder known today for its offbeat, self-described "Life Is Better Up Here" character. Built in 1988 along Bridge Street — State Route 119, just south of its junction with 2nd Street — the 59-foot covered span was built in the modern stringer style rather than an antique truss, but its dark timber siding and peaked roof give central Nederland a distinctly rustic focal point.

The bridge has become something of a local seasonal attraction, particularly in autumn, when the aspens and cottonwoods lining Middle Boulder Creek turn gold and frame the covered crossing for photographers making the short drive up from Boulder. It sits close to the center of a town that has leaned hard into its quirky mountain identity — home to the annual Frozen Dead Guy Days festival and a historic mining-era downtown — and the covered bridge, though a 20th-century addition, has settled comfortably into that small-town character.
