Johnson Covered Bridge (Washington)

Johnson Covered Bridge crosses Whiskey Creek in Gig Harbor, a waterfront community on Puget Sound's Kitsap Peninsula known for its fishing-village charm and harbor views. Built in 2005, the 46-foot Howe truss span is one of the newest covered bridges anywhere in Washington, built long after the state's original working-era covered bridges had mostly disappeared to floods, fire, and modernization.

Small and easy to miss compared to the more heavily trafficked Grays River Covered Bridge to the south, Johnson Covered Bridge nonetheless carries on the tradition of building genuine truss-framed covered spans in a state with very few historic examples left standing. Like its similarly modern counterparts at Cedar Creek and Little Mountain, it represents Washington's 21st-century covered bridge builders keeping the classic American form alive, even without a direct line back to a 19th-century original on the same site.
