Howe Truss
The Jay Covered Bridge crosses the East Branch of the Ausable River in the hamlet of Jay. Rebuilt in 1857 using a Howe truss after flooding destroyed an earlier structure, it is the only surviving covered bridge in the Adirondack region. The bridge was removed and stored in 1997, then restored and returned across the river in 2007, and now carries pedestrians. It is listed on the New York State Register of Historic Places but is not on the National Register of Historic Places.
