Worthington Pond Farm Bridge
Tolland County, Somers. Built 2002, 62 ft. long. A Town truss bridge with arch, hand-built by the farm's owner using 19th-century techniques and timber from the property.
Worthington Pond Farm Bridge was built in 2002 by Ron Ouellette on his own farm in Somers, using trees felled right on the property and construction techniques drawn from 19th-century covered-bridge building — with a few modern touches worked in, including dormer windows on the south side to let in extra sunlight. It carries a small farm crossing over a pond outlet on a Town truss reinforced with an arch, running about 62 feet.
The farm around it grew into something more than a working property over the following years: short trails, picnic areas, a warming house, a sugar shack, and a large-scale model train layout all developed alongside the bridge, turning Worthington Pond Farm into a local destination. After a lengthy back-and-forth with Somers's zoning commission, the farm secured a limited liquor permit and opened to the public in 2010, and it's since become a popular spot for small weddings, prom photos, and engagement shoots — with the covered bridge as one of its signature backdrops.
