Sawyer Pond Bridge

Sawyer Pond Bridge is a small, privately owned covered bridge crossing Sawyer Pond in the Magnolia section of Gloucester, on Massachusetts's North Shore — a different world geographically from the Berkshire and Franklin County hill towns where most of the state's covered bridges cluster. Built in 1983, it runs about 40 feet, one of the newest entries on the state's list of thirteen authentic covered bridges.

Because it sits on private residential land, the bridge sees little public traffic and functions more as a landscape feature than a working crossing — some visitors passing by have noted it appears to double as storage space for its owners. Still, it's built on genuine truss construction rather than a simple stringer design, which is what qualifies it as an authentic covered bridge in the same category as its much older, publicly owned cousins to the west.
