Huckleberry Hill Bridge

Huckleberry Hill Bridge is a small pedestrian covered bridge built in 1968 to carry foot traffic over a manmade pond and waterfall in what's now Countryside Park in Avon, on the west side of Huckleberry Hill Road. At 36 feet, it's one of the more modest entries among Connecticut's nine authentic covered bridges, built on a Pratt truss variation rather than one of the older 19th-century truss forms more commonly associated with the state's historic spans.

Owned and maintained by the Town of Avon, the bridge serves the park's walking paths rather than any road, a quiet local landmark for residents out for a stroll around the pond. It's a good example of how covered-bridge building carried on well past the style's original heyday — not as functional highway infrastructure anymore, but as a piece of civic charm that towns kept choosing to build even decades after steel and concrete had taken over the job of crossing rivers.
