Goodrich Bridge
Hampden County, Westfield. Built 1965, 40 ft. long. A Town lattice truss footbridge over the Duck Pond in Stanley Park, named for Stanley Home Products executive Foster Goodrich.
Goodrich Bridge carries foot traffic across the Duck Pond, a spring-fed pond at the heart of the Colonial-era village recreation inside Stanley Park in Westfield. Built in 1965 on a Town lattice truss, the bridge is an authentic replica in construction even though it postdates the historic period it evokes, and it's registered with the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges alongside the state's older, genuinely historic spans.
The bridge takes its name from Foster "Fos" Goodrich, a Stanley Home Products executive who worked his way up to the company's presidency; the Sales Division dedicated a memorial boulder and plaque to him at the park in 1971. Stanley Park itself was founded in 1949 by Frank Stanley Beveridge on land that has since grown to 300 acres of gardens, trails, and playing fields, with the covered bridge, an old mill and water wheel, a town meeting house, and a carriage shed forming a small living-history corner of the grounds.
