Gold Mine Bridge is one of Connecticut's newest covered bridges, built in 2015 on private land in Norwich. It carries a crossing over a small stream on a Town truss frame, running about 60 feet, and joins the small wave of 21st-century covered bridges that private landowners across Connecticut and Massachusetts have built in recent years, keeping a 19th-century building tradition alive largely through individual enthusiasm rather than public infrastructure need.
Like several of its modern Connecticut counterparts, the bridge sits on private property and isn't a public thoroughfare, but its construction still follows genuine truss principles rather than the simpler stringer-and-siding approach that produces merely decorative "covered" bridges. It stands as one of nine authentic covered bridges left in the state today, a reminder that the tradition of building these structures never really stopped — it just moved from town road commissions to private landowners with a taste for old-fashioned carpentry.
