Gilliland-Reese Covered Bridge

More simply known as Gilliland's Covered Bridge or the Old Reece City Bridge, this 85-foot bridge was originally constructed in 1899 over Little Wills Creek near Reece City. The construction was directed by Etowah County Commissioner Jesse Gilliand, with materials donated by local merchants and labor provided by community volunteers. Its original design featured a Town lattice truss. In the mid-1960s , with Interstate 59 projected, then-owner H. Ross Gilliland donated the bridge to the City of Gadsden for removal to Noccalula Falls Park. It was dismantled and reconstructed over a small pond near Black Creek and the park's botanical gardens. During reconstruction, it was supported by a simpler stringer truss frame, and its deteriorating metal roof was replaced with wood shingles. It is now part of a "pioneer homestead" exhibit in the park and is open only to pedestrians. Due to its relocation and reconstruction, it is classified as "non-authentic"
