Beham Ridge Road, Donegal Township, Washington County, PABrownlee Covered Bridge
Brownlee Covered Bridge, also known as Scott or Scott Brownlee Covered Bridge, stands in McGuffey Community Park in Donegal Township, southwest of Claysville. At the park it crosses the Dutch Fork. It is open to foot traffic only. Its World Guide number is 38-63-09. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1979, as Scott Brownlee Covered Bridge, when it still stood off PA 231 in East Finley Township.
The bridge is believed to date from the 1860s; the builder is not recorded. It originally crossed the Templeton Fork of Wheeling Creek north northwest of East Finley, on Templeton Run Road off PA 231. Washington County removed it, moved it to Claysville and restored it in 2008. Coveredbridges.net dates the move to 2007 and the restoration to 2008.
Brownlee is a kingpost through truss. Coveredbridges.net and Dale Travis both give a length of 41 feet, and coveredbridges.net gives a width of 11.7 feet. Coveredbridges.net describes it as in excellent condition.
Dale Travis gives these directions: from the junction of Bell Avenue and US 40 on the west side of Claysville, go south 0.2 miles, then southwest on Beham Ridge Road 0.5 miles to the park, on the west side of the road. The bridge is for pedestrians only.
