Swift River Covered Bridge
Conway, over the Swift River near its mouth. Built 1869-70, about 130 ft. long. A Paddleford-truss bridge with arches, now open to pedestrians.
The Swift River Covered Bridge crosses the Swift River just above its confluence with the Saco in Conway, a short distance from the Saco River Covered Bridge. An earlier bridge built by John Douglas in 1850 was swept away by floodwaters in 1869; the present Paddleford-truss span with added arches was rebuilt shortly afterward by Jacob Berry and his son, reusing much of the salvaged timber. It is roughly 130 feet long.
Bypassed by a modern highway bridge, it is now open to pedestrians and is a popular stop on the Conway covered-bridge circuit.
