About Shriver Covered Bridge

Shriver Covered Bridge is a 40-foot Queenpost Truss bridge built in 1900 in one of Greene County's most scenic valleys. This unpainted bridge crosses Hargus Creek and is surrounded by beautiful farmland.

History of Shriver Covered Bridge

Shriver Covered Bridge was built in 1900 and has served the rural community for over 120 years. The bridge was reconstructed in 2013, ensuring its preservation for future generations. It sits in a picturesque valley surrounded by several beautiful farms, making it one of the most scenic covered bridges in Greene County.

Architecture and Design

The bridge uses a Queenpost Truss design and spans 40 feet over Hargus Creek. It features random-width unpainted vertical board siding on both sides and portals, giving it a natural, rustic appearance. The gable roof is covered with tin and the deck consists of crosswise planking. The bridge is reinforced with six steel I-beams and rests on cut stone abutments that appear to have been laid dry, with wingwalls extending slightly above road level.

Visiting Shriver Covered Bridge

Shriver Covered Bridge is located along Turkey Hollow Road, just off State Route 3011 and a short distance from Highway 18. The surrounding farms make some viewing angles difficult, but there is a sloping hill just after the bridge that provides a nice overlook. The scenic valley setting makes this one of the most photogenic covered bridges in the region.
