History of Scott Covered Bridge
Scott Covered Bridge was built in 1885 by William Lang. It is the westernmost covered bridge in Greene County and has served the community for nearly 140 years. The bridge was rebuilt in 2008 and reinforced with six steel I-beams, ensuring its structural integrity while maintaining its historic character.
Architecture and Design
The bridge uses a Queenpost Truss design and spans 41 feet over Ten Mile Creek. It is covered with unpainted vertical boards on both sides and portals, with a sheet metal roof and crosswise planking deck. A distinctive feature is a side window cut into the center of the Queenpost truss structure, in addition to the typical lengthwise openings under the eaves. The bridge rests on cut stone abutments.
Visiting Scott Covered Bridge
Scott Covered Bridge is located just off Highway 21 near Rogersville. The bridge is set along the edge of a wood line surrounded by dense underbrush, giving it a different feel from other Greene County bridges. Parking is tricky as there is nowhere to pull off next to the bridge; the best option is a small gravel area where Highway 21 intersects with Covered Bridge Road, about 150 yards from the bridge.
