Pulp Mill Covered Bridge

Built c. 1820 (historian Lewandosky c. 1850 5 ), Burr arch (modified with laminated arches and King post trusses), 199 ft long.

Crosses Otter Creek between Middlebury and Weybridge. One of only seven double-barreled (two-lane) covered bridges in the United States, and one of two in Vermont still carrying regular traffic. Considered the oldest covered bridge in Vermont. 5 Originally a single span; two piers were added later due to design flaws and heavy use. The original Burr arches were replaced around 1860. 5

Architectural Features: Double-barreled (two-lane) design. A walkway was added by the towns of Weybridge and Middlebury. 5

Current Condition: Rehabilitated from January to November 2012. Open to automobile traffic, with a bicycle and pedestrian pathway. 5
