Old Union Crossing Covered Bridge
DeKalb County, near Mentone (private resort). Built c. 1863, 90 ft. long. Moved and rebuilt, classified "non-authentic."

This 90-foot bridge spans the West Fork of the Little River. It was originally built circa 1863-1864 by Union Army troops during the Civil War to cross Otter Creek near Lincoln, in either Talladega or Calhoun County. In 1972, the bridge was moved from its original location to its current site on private property at what is now an access road between Shady Grove Dude Ranch and Cloudmont Ski & Golf Resort, near Mentone. It was rebuilt in 1980 over an existing late 19th-century cable bridge foundation. The bridge is of Stringer construction and is classified as "non-authentic based on its current construction". It sustained damage from Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 but was subsequently repaired and is now primarily used by horseback riders. Access is private; contact resort/ranch.
