About Mink Hollow Covered Bridge

The Mink Hollow Covered Bridge (also called Oil Mill Hollow Bridge) is a 51-foot span built around 1887 by Jacob Brandt. It remains at its original location in what is now Arney Run Park, sitting on its original 19th-century sandstone abutments spanning Arney Run, a tributary of Clear Creek.

History of Mink Hollow Covered Bridge

Built circa 1887 by Jacob 'Blue Jeans' Brandt, this bridge gets its complex name from its location in Oil Mill Hollow, named after an old flaxseed oil mill that operated nearby (Borcher's Mill converted flax seed into linseed oil). Arney Run is the tributary it crosses, and the area was historically known as Mink Hollow. It is one of only four Fairfield County covered bridges remaining at their original locations.

Architecture and Design

The bridge features construction typical of Jacob Brandt's work and remains on its original sandstone abutments. At 51 feet, it demonstrates the scale of bridges needed for the county's smaller creek crossings. GPS coordinates: N39 38.329 W82 39.000.
