Longwood Bridge
Fayette County, Connersville Township, in Connersville. Built 1884, 97 ft. long. Built by Kennedy Brothers; relocated from Williams Creek to Roberts Park in 1984-86.
Built in 1884 by the Kennedy Brothers, sons of prolific Indiana bridge builder Archibald M. Kennedy, the Longwood Covered Bridge is a Burr Arch truss structure that originally spanned Williams Creek near Glenwood in Fayette County, taking its name from the nearby Longwood station on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Ornamental round-arched portals, carved knee bracing, and scrollwork distinguish it, with "Kennedy Bros" inscribed above the portal. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, but was delisted in 1989 after being dismantled in 1983 and relocated to Roberts Park in Connersville, where reconstruction was completed by 1986, fittingly its 100th anniversary. It is the last of Fayette County's original five covered bridges to survive. Since its move, the bridge no longer crosses water; it stands over dry parkland in Roberts Park, functioning solely as a pedestrian crossing and historic display piece within the park's grounds.
