History of Lippincott Covered Bridge
Lippincott Covered Bridge was built in 1943, making it one of the newest historical covered bridges in Pennsylvania. It was constructed out of wood instead of steel due to material shortages during World War II. The bridge was completely restored in 2013 through grant funding, which replaced deteriorated wood and installed five steel beams to carry traffic loads. This restoration gave it a very polished, well-maintained appearance.
Architecture and Design
The bridge uses a Kingpost Truss design, the simplest of truss styles typically used for shorter spans. At only 27 feet long, it is the shortest covered bridge in Greene County and one of the shortest in Pennsylvania. The bridge features horizontal siding, a sheet metal roof, one concrete abutment and one stone and mortar abutment reinforced with concrete.
