About Henry Covered Bridge

Henry Covered Bridge is a historic 45-foot Queenpost truss bridge located in Fairfield Township, Washington County, Ohio. Built in 1894 by E.B. Henderson, it spans the West Branch of the Little Hocking River on Township Road 61. The bridge is sometimes referred to as the Goddard Bridge.

History of Henry Covered Bridge

Henry Covered Bridge was constructed in 1894 by E.B. Henderson, who was responsible for building numerous covered bridges throughout Washington County. The bridge was one of two western Washington County bridges known to have been built after a drowning or near-drowning incident in the area. Henderson used the Multiple Kingpost truss design (sometimes classified as Queenpost for this shorter span), the same style he employed for several other local bridges including the Bell Covered Bridge.

Architecture and Design

At 45 feet in length, the Henry Covered Bridge utilizes a Queenpost truss design, which is a lengthened version of the Kingpost truss. The bridge features traditional construction with vertical siding, a metal roof, and stone abutments. Like other Henderson bridges in the county, it demonstrates the practical engineering approach used throughout Washington County's covered bridges.
