About Hartman #2 Covered Bridge

The Hartman #2 Covered Bridge is a bright red 48-foot Queenpost truss structure originally built in 1888. Now located in Lockville Canal Park, it spans what was once the Ohio & Erie Canal, connecting visitors to the region's rich canal heritage.

History of Hartman #2 Covered Bridge

Built in 1888 by William Funk, the bridge originally spanned Raccoon Creek at Wheeling Road. In 1967, it was disassembled and rebuilt at its current location in Lockville Canal Park to span the old Ohio & Erie Canal bed. Lockville was historically the site of seven locks along the canal, with three sets of intact locks, a towpath, and basin still remaining in the park.

Architecture and Design

The bridge features Queenpost truss construction, one of the simpler covered bridge designs consisting of two vertical posts with diagonal bracing. At 48 feet, it's appropriate for the Queenpost design's typical span range. The distinctive red paint makes it a popular photography subject.

Visiting Hartman #2 Covered Bridge

The bridge is located at Lockville Canal Park, 5895 Pickerington Road NW in Carroll.
