Happy Corner Covered Bridge
Pittsburg, over Perry Stream (Hill Road). Built c. 1850s, about 60 ft. long. A Paddleford-truss bridge with arch, one of the oldest in northern New Hampshire.
The Happy Corner Covered Bridge crosses Perry Stream on Hill Road about six miles north of Pittsburg village, deep in New Hampshire's Great North Woods. Built in the mid-1800s, it is a Paddleford truss with an added arch about 60 feet long, and is regarded as one of the oldest covered bridges in northern New Hampshire.
The Happy Corner crossroads was a bustling neighborhood in the late 1800s with a sawmill, store, and Temperance Hall; the bridge reportedly takes its name from a cheerful local resident who liked to sing and dance. It remains open to traffic.
