History of Hanaway Covered Bridge

County records do not indicate a verifiable construction date, though some sources claim it was built around 1901 by James W. Buchanan, an Ohio school teacher who became one of the region's prominent bridge builders. The bridge originally served Clear Creek crossings and remains at its original location, one of only four Fairfield County covered bridges still standing where they were built.
