Groveton Covered Bridge
Northumberland (Groveton), over the Upper Ammonoosuc River. Built 1852, about 126 ft. long. A Paddleford-truss bridge preserved in a village park, with picnic tables inside.
The Groveton Covered Bridge spans the Upper Ammonoosuc River at the village of Groveton in Northumberland. Built in 1852 by Captain Charles Richardson and his son, it is a Paddleford truss about 126 feet long with a clear span of roughly 108 feet. The Paddleford truss, an unpatented regional variant of the Long truss developed by Peter Paddleford of Littleton, is found only in New England.
Bypassed by a modern highway bridge, the Groveton Bridge is now preserved as a landmark in a small park and welcomes visitors on foot, with picnic tables set up inside.
