History of Feltons Mill Covered Bridge
Feltons Mill Covered Bridge was built in 1882 and has served as a crossing over Brush Creek for over 140 years. The bridge is located next to the historic Feltons Mill, creating a picturesque pairing of historic structures. Sadly, both the bridge and mill are privately owned and have fallen into disrepair. The bridge is located downstream of Jacksons Mill Covered Bridge, which is in much better condition.
Architecture and Design
The bridge uses a Burr Arch Truss design and spans 105 feet over Brush Creek. Despite its deteriorated condition, the basic structure remains intact. The bridge shows signs of age with weathered wood and structural concerns. It represents an important part of Bedford County's covered bridge heritage and would benefit from restoration efforts.
Visiting Feltons Mill Covered Bridge
Feltons Mill Covered Bridge is located about 1.5 miles west of Jacksons Mill Covered Bridge and four miles from Breezewood, off East Mattie Road. The bridge is on private property, so visitors should be respectful and look for posted signs. It may be possible to view the bridge from the concrete bridge on East Mattie Road. The nearby Jacksons Mill Covered Bridge offers a better-preserved alternative.
