The Edgell Covered Bridge carries River Road over Clay Brook in Lyme, in the Connecticut River valley. Built in 1885 by Walter Piper, reportedly only eighteen years old at the time, it is a Town lattice truss about 132 feet long with a clear span of roughly 111 feet. According to local tradition it was assembled on the town common and then moved by oxcart to its site.
It is named for Major Frederick M. Edgell, a Civil War veteran, and remains open to traffic.
