History of Doyle Road Covered Bridge

The bridge was built in 1868, the same year as the Harpersfield, Middle Road, and Root Road bridges. It was renovated in 1987 when a laminated arch was added to strengthen the structure. This modification allowed the historic bridge to continue serving modern traffic while preserving its 19th-century character.

The Doyle Road Bridge features Town lattice truss construction with the added laminated arch from its 1987 renovation. The clearance height is 13 feet 6 inches. The bridge demonstrates how historic covered bridges can be reinforced with modern techniques while maintaining their traditional appearance.
