Corbin Covered Bridge
Newport, over the North Branch of the Sugar River (Corbin Road). Originally 1845; destroyed by arson in 1993 and faithfully rebuilt in 1994. Town lattice truss, 96 ft. long.
The Corbin Covered Bridge carries Corbin Road over the North Branch of the Sugar River about a mile west of NH Route 10 in Newport. The original Town lattice truss bridge was built in 1845 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. In the early hours of May 25, 1993, it was destroyed by an arson fire and subsequently removed from the Register.
The community rebuilt the bridge in 1994 as a faithful Town lattice reconstruction, one span totaling 96 feet in length and 18 feet wide, resting on stone abutments about 12 feet above the water. It once again carries a single lane of traffic.
